Area Supervisor

What year did you start working for McDonald’s and the Walla Organization?

1998

What led you to your current career at McDonald’s?

A friend of mine called me and told me that he got a job at McDonald’s and that they were still hiring.  I thought it would be a perfect opportunity to work with a friend. He ended up quitting about 3 months later, as it was just a summer job to him, and we eventually lost touch. I decided to keep working after school started again and continued to do so through my last couple years of high school/college. By this time, I was promoted to management and had no desire to work anywhere else. During those first few years I made many new friends, some that I still have today. A friend got me to apply, and new friends got me to stay.

What is your current position and responsibility?

General Manager of our Cheyenne/Elk Vale location.  I oversee all operations of the restaurant.  This includes sales/expenses, profit, employee practices, training, scheduling, inventory, cleanliness, customer satisfaction, and ensuring we are representing the brand and Wendy to the Walla standards.

Why do you work at McDonald’s?

This is simple, it’s the people. I have never had a job with a small staff size. I enjoy working with many different people and getting to know them. The employees keep me motivated to lead them the best ways that I can.  I also enjoy the challenges of my role, and knowing that I am making an impact on someone every day I work, whether that’s an employee or customer.

What is it like working for the Walla Organization?

I feel blessed. The Walla Organization is all I know, and all I need to know.  It is a great feeling knowing that I am working for someone who TRULY cares about her people. Wendy, Josh, and Todd will always put our employee’s needs and concerns first. I know there are difficult decisions to make in their roles, but I do know that they make these decisions with our best interests in mind. I have heard horror stories of how employees are treated elsewhere and every time I hear those things it makes me appreciate what we have here. This is something I don’t take for granted, and a huge reason why the Walla organization is so very successful.

What is your go-to meal at McDonald’s?

2 hamburgers.  An easy classic.

How does your career at McDonald’s support your life outside of work?

Many ways. The ability to work schedules that work well for me and my family is huge to me. The benefits of vacation time, health insurance for my entire family, and the job security supports my life tremendously. The competitive pay and bonuses are icing on the cake.

What do you like to do in your free time?

Enjoy life. Whether that is spend time with my family and friends, being outside appreciating all that South Dakota has to offer, or just staying home watching football, I enjoy many different things and I want to make sure to enjoy life whenever I can.
